Access Statement

Wentworth Castle Gardens are built onto the side of a hill in the Pennine foothills. We are committed to making Wentworth Castle Gardens as accessible as possible.

Car Parking:

There is a 5 minute walk from the visitor car park to the Long Barn Visitor Centre. Disabled visitors may use a parking area nearer to the Visitor Centre, however spaces are limited. Please follow signs from the main car park.

rhodosTerrain:

Wentworth Castle Gardens were created on a sloping site in the foothills of the Pennines.  The paths as far as the lower garden and conservatory are well surfaced and are at a 1:12 gradient or less.  However, further towards the castle the gradients increase and may be as steep as 1:7 in places.

Visitor Centre:

The Long Barn Visitor Centre is fully accessible. There are disabled toilet facilities on the lower and upper floors and a lift is available. The function and meeting spaces are fitted with an induction hearing loop.

Assistance Dogs:

Registered assistance dogs are welcome in the Gardens.  Please bring appropriate identification.

Mobility Buggies:

The Trust has a golf buggy which may be pre-booked for the use of visitors who find the walk through the gardens difficult.

There is a charge of £5 to hire a buggy to help cover the costs of maintenance.  Users of the golf buggy need to be over 17 years and must pass a competence test before taking the buggy out.  For more information or to reserve a buggy before your visit, please call (01226) 776040.  Pre-booking is strongly recommended.

If you think you might be able to help out as a “buggy driver” we are always looking for volunteers, please ring us on 01226 776040 or email heritagetrust@wentworthcastle.org for further information.
